About Me

My name is Louise Pugsley, and I hold a BA (Hons) in English Literature. I have dedicated my career to teaching English Language and Literature, with a focus on Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. As both a Head of Department in the UK and internationally, I have developed a deep understanding of how to inspire students and help them achieve their potential. Whether working with students in a classroom setting or through private tutoring, I bring passion, expertise, and a commitment to personalised learning.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my three grown-up children and unwinding with either a good book or a refreshing run in the countryside.

My Experience

I have 27 years of experience teaching English across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. My work has included preparing students for a range of entrance examinations, such as SATs, CAT4, and NGRTs, as well as teaching AQA and iGCSE at GCSE level. At A-level, I have taught both AQA Specification B and Edexcel English Literature, ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to excel in their studies.

As a GCSE examiner, I am fully up-to-date with the latest specifications and examination board requirements. In addition to classroom teaching, I have held leadership roles, including Head of Department and Teaching and Learning Lead. These roles have provided me with a strong foundation in pedagogy and an array of strategies to support diverse learners effectively.

Having taught both in the UK and abroad, I bring a broad and adaptable perspective to my work, tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each student.

My Services

I provide private tutoring in English Language and Literature for Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. My sessions are tailored to the individual needs of each student, focusing on their strengths and addressing their areas for improvement.

Each one-hour session is preceded by a complimentary 30-minute introductory meeting. This meeting allows me to get to know the student, understand their goals, and design a personalised and relevant programme of study. After every session, I provide parents with a detailed email update to ensure regular communication and highlight progress.

With a focus on creating an engaging and effective learning environment, I use a range of techniques, including low-stakes testing, scaffolding, modelling, and retrieval practice. These strategies keep students motivated and help them build confidence in their abilities.

Whether students are aiming to improve their grades, deepen their understanding of English, or prepare for important exams, I am committed to providing expert, supportive, and focused tutoring to help them succeed.
